Executive Director, Kathy Hart
Our mission, is to extend a helping hand to make a difference in the lives we touch in Georgia through education, advocacy, prevention and intervention. This mission truly embodies the spirit of the work we do here at Hodac. This year we have celebrated with mothers in substance abuse recovery at Gateway Cottage when they are reunited with their children, and we have offered support and necessary information to victims of crime who come into our office for help. We have watched the members of the Teen Center grow and learn through group activities, educational field trips, and life skills lessons about nutrition, self confidence, and anger management among other topics. We have diligently manned the phones when individuals call into one of our four Helplines seeking assistance and information during some grim situations. We've truly had an inspiring year!
Although there have been changes this year at Hodac, some things will never change, such as the deep commitment this organization has to assisting those in need. We've been helping Houston County for the past 37 years, and as the needs of our community change, we stand poised and ready to meet those changing needs. Currently, our organization operates four helplines offering information and referral relating to substance abuse, gambling, victim assistance, and community resources; a victim assistance center offering help to victims of crime in Houston County and hospital accompaniment for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence; legal assistance for eligible clients, usually low income and/or minority, who are victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking; alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention groups in local schools; prevention counseling for at-risk students; a free teen center for youth aged 10-18; and the Gateway Cottage and Aftercare programs, offering supportive services and living assistance to mothers in substance abuse recovery and their children.
We believe a community prevents and fixes problems by working together, which is why we strive to collaborate with law enforcement, local businesses, community resources, and volunteers. Please stop by our offices at 2762 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, or call (478) 953¬5675 if you would ever like to donate or get involved by volunteering.
