Hodac’s Parenting Workshops are available in the tri-county area of Houston, Peach and Crawford Counties. Schools, PTOs, parent support groups, churches, businesses and other related entities can schedule parenting workshops throughout the year. The following workshops are available:
Parents and Adolescents Coming Together (PACT) - Parents and Adolescents Coming Together (PACT) targets parenting of teens who are expecting difficulties in school and/or the community. Through two eight-hour sessions this program provides the tools to increase communication skills between the adult and the adolescent. In addition, parenting styles and problem solving skills are enhanced, and "at-risk" behaviors decreased.PACT sessions will include the following topics:
- Styles of Parenting
- Communication Blockers
- Rebuilding Trust
- Goal Setting
The Nurturing Parenting Program - is an intensive family-centered parenting program designed to promote healthy parenting strategies. Sessions help build self-awareness, positive concept/self-esteem and build levels of empathy; teach alternatives to hitting and yelling; enhance family communication and awareness of needs; replace abusive behaviors with nurturing behaviors; promote healthy physical and emotional development; and teach appropriate role and developmental expectations. Classes are geared toward parents of Infant - 4 year old and 5 - 11 year old.
Speaking of Developmental Assets - According to the Search Institute, "The Developmental Assets are 40 common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. Grounded in extensive research in youth development, resiliency, and prevention, the Developmental Assets represent the relationships, opportunities, and personal qualities that young people need to avoid risks and to thrive. Because of its basis in research and its proven effectiveness, the Developmental Assets framework has become the single most widely used approach to positive youth development in the United States." The message to parents in this workshop is that they are an integral part of making sure their kids have these developmental assets, leading to avoidance of risky behaviors and long-term success in school and in life!
Choosing the Best: Parent Prep-A 75-minute parent education program that quickly gets parents "on board" and involved in helping their teens choose abstinence.
Active Parenting Now-for parents of children 5-12 years old. Designed to teach parents how to raise responsible, cooperative children who are prepared to meet the challenges of the teen years. Topics include styles of parenting mutual respect, handling problems, building cooperation, active communication, teaching responsibility, effective discipline, logical consequences, encouragement, and building character, courage, and self-esteem.
Active Parenting of Teens-gives parents confidence and courage to meet the challenges of their children's teen years. Topics focus on parenting styles; mutual respect; communication; encouragement; problem-solving; building courage; redirecting misbehavior; and drugs, sexuality, and violence.
Parents on Board - With this lively, video-based parenting course, parents will learn how to help their children with school work, how to set up a study-smart environment at home, and how to support the school's discipline plan. Parents are a child's #1 teacher. Parent involvement in education is a must
